Project Focus: Emancipation Park Renovations

June 21, 2023by Kristen Dyson

Historic Emancipation Park is the oldest park in both Houston and the state of Texas. Located in the city’s Third Ward, the Park is a popular recreational spot within the community. The property boasts a number of facilities for visitors to enjoy, including a swimming pool, sports fields, tennis courts, a playground and more. Working with the City of Houston and OST/Almeda Corridors Redevelopment Authority, our team led the effort to bring some much-needed improvements to the park beginning in late 2022.

The scope of the project included several segments of work, the most significant of which included a total re-work of two splash pads at the Park. Additionally, a smaller, third splash pad was removed.

Extensive improvements were made to the playground, where equipment and surfacing were replaced and upgraded. Existing shade sails were removed, and new ones were added. Fresh landscaping was installed to enhance the property.

Finally, extensive utility work was done inside the Community Center to improve building drainage and flood prevention measures for the sports court.

We are proud to have had the opportunity to help bring life to the outdoors at Emancipation Park!
