Texas Children’s Hospital is a widely known pediatric medical care facility with locations across the state. While the interiors of the hospitals boast colorful wall paintings, child-friendly decor, media rooms, production studios, family lounges and hair salons, the outside of Texas Medical Center location in Houston was in dire need of some TLC.
In conjunction with Texas Children’s and The Office of James Burnett, we installed The Merle C. Donigan Play Garden, a playground facility that provides children the opportunity to Think Outside.
The original playground wasn’t being utilized by patients and their families due to its unwelcoming vibe and lack of shade during hot Houston summers. Texas Children’s Hospital wanted to create a space for patients and their families to relax and enjoy during their visit or hospital stay.
Bringing The Merle C. Donigan Play Garden to Life
Adorned with colorful play structures, child-friendly turf surfaces, a light tower and custom murals, The Merle C. Donigan Play Garden was built to welcome pediatric patients of all ages and physical abilities. Nestled in the middle of towering skyscrapers, the play-pieces that were chosen were specifically selected so that children with all physical limitations could utilize them. Our team paid close attention to the materials being used to ensure the safety and well-being of pediatric patients and their families.
The updated playground now has plenty of shade, benches, and lush landscaping to provide a retreat oasis. The custom art piece in the center was supported by a structure created and installed by Renfrow+Co.
With the help of B&D Contractors, the Merle C. Donigan Play Garden transformed an ordinary space into a fun, bright outdoor solution that can be enjoyed for years to come.
