Houston’s “The Allen” has now opened along the scenic Allen Parkway.
The futuristic-looking complex might’ve caught your eye if you’ve spent any time cruising down the Parkway into downtown over the last few years. And for good reason. The space – which features a 35-story high-rise tower and four-story retail center – stands out amongst the crowd of office buildings and apartment complexes that adorn the area. The Allen has raised the bar on luxury living in Houston, offering premium condominiums and high-end dining and shopping options all within steps of each other.
In collaboration with GT Leach and HOK, we led all hardscape and landscape efforts around the property, as well as several amenity decks located within the tower. Phase I of the project began in 2022, and entailed a massive paver installation effort. Roughly 60% of ground-level pavilion was completed during this time frame, an intricate weaving of both dark and light grey Keystone pedestrian pavers for the sidewalks and vehicular pavers in the valet area and building perimeters.
Our portion of the project paused while construction of the tower went underway; we then made our way to the tower’s Level 5 and Level 7 amenity decks. The Level 7 deck is now the home of Thompson Houston, a luxury hotel by renowned hotelier Hyatt. The design called for the hotel’s pool deck called for oversized pavers on pedestals, as well as palm trees. To satisfy the requirement, we craned up these larger sized elements after hours.
Back on the ground level, extensive landscaping was installed around the property, adding color and vibrancy to the more neutral colors of the pavers and surrounding concrete. The full landscape package included irrigation and drainage on all three levels to aid keeping the lush look and feel of the property.
