B&D Intern Experience with Jordy Tiburcio

March 26, 2025by Kristen Dyson

Jordy Tiburcio interned with our team in the Summer of 2024, starting with a passion for the construction industry and leaving with real-world skills that laid the foundation for his future career. Read more about his experience in the Q&A below 👇

Where do you go to school?

Texas A&M University.

What are you studying?

I’m studying architectural engineering and working to get my bachelor’s degree.

How did you learn about B&D?

My father is an electrician that bids jobs for B&D. I was with my dad one day trying to get some experience in his field. We met up with Jack Christison, and I asked him if I could intern there because it’s the field I want to get into.

What are your internship goals?

None really. I went in open minded – you want to learn the most you can, and I wanted to learn more about the construction industry and plans.

What are some of the highlights of your internship?

I started in July 2024, mostly working with Jack’s team on the general contracting side.

Some of the highlights of my time interning were learning how to talk to contractors over the phone, reading plans, addendums and how a bid proposal is put together. RFI submitals, change orders, all of those things. I learned how to send professional emails. I went out to the Rice Academic Quad, Texas City Community Plaza and Creekside Park job sites with Chris, Jack and Ibraheem to see the work they have in progress.

The best part of my internship was when we had our bid put together and submitted, and we waited for our results to see if we were high or low. We worked on it for weeks, just waiting for that moment.

The second highlight was going to the sites – seeing the drawings, then seeing it in real life really gives you an idea of what you’re actually working on. I really liked going out to the sites and looking at them. It helped me learn why we were doing certain things.

What’s it like working with the B&D team?

I loved it! They’re amazing and all really nice. If I had a question they’d explain it, even if they had something going on. They had no problem pausing and explaining it to me. They’d go out of their way to explain things to me.

It was a great experience. They did a good job and I really enjoyed my time at B&D. On my last day they took me out to eat and gave me a couple of gifts. The gestures toward the end of my internship once I was leaving, it was really nice of them. I felt welcomed.
